Blazers Announce Coaching, Ownership Changes for 2020

by Eric Rodgers

The Oklahoma City Blazers have announced operational changes today, regarding coaching and ownership.

Due to unforeseen circumstances, previous owner Gary Gill has relinquished ownership of the team as of January 1st, 2020. As such, the Oklahoma City Blazers are now operating under the supervision of the Western States Hockey League, and have partnered with local management to run the team.

As part of that move, the league has named longtime Blazers head of off-ice officials Rick Gowin as General Manager.

In an additional move, the Blazers have announced that head coach Ty Smith has been relieved of coaching duties, and have promoted Assistant Coach Daniel Armstrong as Head Coach.

A WSHL alum, Armstrong played three season with the Butte Cobras from 2014-17 before advancing to the college ranks with the University of Northern Colorado. Armstrong will begin his stint as head coach behind the bench against the Pueblo Bulls on January 10th.
