by Eric Rodgers

The Oklahoma City Blazers traveled to Greeley, Colorado for a three-game set against the Northern Colorado Eagles on Friday, kicking off their weekend series. OKC started Bobby Cloutier in net, against Marshall Murphy for the Eagles.

Both teams hit the scoreboard in the 1st period, as the Blazers opened up the scoring from Vitali Mikhailov, with the Eagles matching from Banks Burkart midway through the period, and sending the game to the first intermission at 1-1 score.

OKC shook off the bus legs in the 2nd period, and the scoreboard reflected as they scored three unanswered goals to go up by a 4-1 score to close out the period, with Nathan Inniss, Tobias Thorner, and Henrik Overvall giving OKC the three-goal lead.

Northern Colorado answered back to start the 3rd period, as the teams began trading goals. Stephane Doering put OKC back up by three with just over six minutes remaining. The Eagles attempted a late surge as Trent Hines made it a 5-3 score in the final minute, and subsequently pulled Murphy for the extra attacker. With the net empty, Vitali Mikhailov hammered the final nail to make it 6-3, and give the Blazers the win. Mikhailov's two goals on the night were his 99th and 100th goals in a Blazers jersey, becoming the third player to reach that mark.

Bobby Cloutier picks up the win in net, stopping 23 of 26 shots to improve to 11-4-1 on the season.

Both teams return to the ice on Saturday with a 9:45p Central start in Greeley!
