Eagles Down OKC, 3-2

by Eric Rodgers

Saturday afternoon, the Oklahoma City Blazers and Northern Colorado Eagles battled in the second of their three-game weekend series, as both teams look to enter the Western States Shootout on a high note. Both teams kept their goaltender from Friday's game in net, as Bobby Cloutier and Marshall Murphy set up in their respective nets.

The 1st period remained a scoreless affair, as both teams battled back and forth. The first goal came in the 2nd period, as the Eagles opened the scoring on a 4-on-4 situation, jumping out to the 1-0 lead. Minutes later, the Blazers tied the game up on the power play, with Henrik Overvall one-timing the puck from the high slot and making it a 1-1 game, which held into the 2nd intermission.

Ten seconds into the 3rd, the Eagles jumped back to the lead, which held until late into the period. With just over five minutes remaining in regulation, the Blazers had another power play, with Henrik Overvall again one-timing a drop pass and scoring to make it 2-2.

The Eagles were able to score just a minute later to make it 3-2. OKC tried coming back with the extra attacker, but a penalty late negated that opportunity, and the Eagles held on for the win.

The Blazers and Eagles compete in the rubber match on Sunday at 1:00p Central, as both teams will head to Vegas next week.
