Series Advantage Goes To OKC, Blazers Win 6-3

by Eric Rodgers

Saturday night, the Oklahoma City Blazers and Northern Colorado Eagles returned to the ice for the second of three games on the weekend. Both teams returned to their goaltenders from the previous night as Bobby Cloutier and Marshall Murphy set up in net.

Northern Colorado came out to a quick start, opening the scoring just 2:50 into the game to jump out to a 1-0 score. The Eagles extended the lead midway through the 1st, putting the Blazers down by a 2-0 score as the Eagles scored on the power play.  With 1:22 left in the 1st however, the Blazers picked up a pair of goals in 19 seconds from Tobias Thorner and Stephane Doering to tie things up at 2-2. The Eagles got the last swing though, scoring with 35 seconds left to re-take the lead 3-2.

Despite five goals in the 1st period, only one goal was scored in the 2nd, and it was from OKC as Harri Koll picked up the tying goal on a 5-on-3 power play to make it a 3-3 game after forty minutes.

The momentum stayed with the Blazers into the 3rd period as Joey Allegrini scored the eventual game-winner on the power play, followed by goals by Stephane Doering and Vitali Mikhailov to seal the win for the Blazers, 6-3.

Bobby Cloutier picked up the win in net, stopping 45 of 48 shots to improve to 12-4-1 on the season.

Both teams return to the ice on Sunday with a 1:00p CST start to close out their weekend series!
